Security and privacy

How I handle access to your systems.

Helping with your technology often means seeing your accounts, files and settings. Here is how I treat that access.

The access I ask for

I ask for my own account rather than a shared login, with only the access the work needs. If a task needs administrator rights, we agree on it first, and I use them only for that task.

How I protect my accounts

My accounts use multi-factor sign-in and a password manager. I don't keep client passwords in email, documents or notes.

Where your information is kept

Notes and documents about your business stay in my business accounts, which are protected the same way. I don't share your information with anyone outside the work we agreed on without asking you first.

Working with your IT provider

If someone already manages your systems, changes to security settings go through them or are agreed with them, so there is one clear record of who changed what.

When the work ends

When a project finishes, I remove my access or hand the account back to you, and confirm with you that it's done.

If something looks wrong

If I notice something that looks like a security problem, I tell you straight away, along with what I would do next.
